Pacific Environment applauds Cliff Rechtschaffen’s appointment to the California Air Resources Board

SACRAMENTO (October 2, 2023) – On September 27, 2023, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Cliff Rechtschaffen to the California Air Resources Board. Previously, Rechtschaffen has served as a Commissioner on the California Public Utilities Commission since 2017. He also served as a Senior Advisor on Climate and Energy in the Office of Governor Brown from 2011 to 2017. Rechtschaffen was Acting Director of the California Department of Conservation in 2011 and served as Special Assistant Attorney General at the California Department of Justice, Attorney General’s Office from 2007 to 2010, among other positions.

California needs to aggressively tackle emissions that are triggering a host of natural disasters while also polluting the air we breathe. We look forward to working with Cliff Rechtschaffen and CARB to address one of the state’s biggest polluters – ocean going vessels – and to bring zero-emission shipping to California by 2040.”
